Are they nickle or chrome plated?

Chrome.

What material is the comfort grip handle? Will oil or solvents degrade them and make them peel and smell?

Not sure if it's 100% hardened rubber. But they are pretty comfortable. Oil will make them slippery though. I don't think it will degrade the grips though..
